Giarre opens an 18th-century villa for the first time for the FAI Spring Days.
On Saturday, March 21, and Sunday, March 22, the FAI Group Giarre Riposto will open the doors of the historic residence for the first time.
On the occasion of the FAI Spring Days, Saturday, March 21 and Sunday, March 22, the FAI Giarre Riposto Group will open the doors of Villa Fiamingo for the first time, located at 61 Via delle Acacie in Giarre, along the road that leads from the Macchia district to San Giovanni Montebello: a historic residence of great charm, an authentic hidden gem of the Ionian coastline of Etna.
The residence is linked to the story of one of the most influential families of the nineteenth century in the County of Mascali, between Giarre and Riposto: the Fiamingo family, protagonists of a season of strong economic expansion, when the area became one of the most dynamic centers of trade in eastern Sicily.
Dating back to the second half of the 1800s, the building was designed to showcase prestige and wealth, and stands out for its high architectural value. The visit will allow guests to admire the refined painted decorations and stuccoes of the ceilings, the original flooring and majolica, as well as the evocative garden with centuries-old plants, a living testimony of an era that profoundly marked the history of the territory.
The Apprentice Ciceroni of the IIS “Leonardo” of Giarre will guide the public on a journey through time, skillfully and passionately illustrating the history of the villa, the Fiamingo family, and the civilization that characterized the Ionian coastline of Etna between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
During the FAI Days, it will be possible to access both the ground floor and the rooms of the first floor, as well as the park that surrounds the residence.
“Opening Villa Fiamingo for the first time during the FAI Spring Days – declares the head of the FAI Giarre Riposto group Giada Patanè – represents a very important moment for our territory. It is an extraordinary place, little known but rich in history, that tells a significant chapter of the economic and social growth of the Ionian coastline of Etna. Thanks to the commitment of FAI volunteers and the apprentice Ciceroni, we want to offer visitors an engaging experience and help rediscover a heritage that deserves to be valued and shared.”
The FAI Group Giarre Riposto invites citizens and visitors to participate on Saturday, March 21 and Sunday, March 22, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM and from 2:30 PM to 6:00 PM, to be enchanted by the charm of Villa Fiamingo, a symbol of history, elegance, and collective memory. Access is free, with no reservation required.
