The spa town officially runs for the title of Italian Capital of the Book 2027. The Council chaired by Fabio Termine has approved the guideline act that initiates the process to transform the city into a cultural laboratory capable of enhancing reading, the local publishing chain, and the identity heritage of the territory.

"A choice – reads the deliberative act - motivated by the desire to seize a national opportunity that could bring visibility, investments, and a significant tourist return".

The call from the Ministry of Culture indeed offers a contribution of about 500,000 euros for the winning city, in addition to a year of nationally significant cultural programming. For Sciacca, which a few years ago, with the recognition of “City that Reads”, decisively focused on cultural regeneration, this is a challenge to make culture a driver of economic and social development.

An ambitious goal, not easy to achieve, but possible, also due to the presence in the city of the historic event “Letterando in Fest”.

The candidacy requires a detailed dossier that includes cultural project, economic plan, impact indicators, communication strategies. The procedures have already been initiated to entrust external professionals with the drafting of the project.

"Not participating – says the administration - would mean losing a great opportunity, with negative repercussions for the image and growth prospects of the city".

The Council has indeed emphasized that the candidacy represents a "urgent and indispensable opportunity", capable of generating concrete benefits: increased tourist flows, attractive cultural events, activation of networks with publishers, authors, schools, associations, and industry operators.

To support the project, the Administration has planned a reallocation of internal resources, allocating funds for the cultural promotion of the city.
