Time is running out for serial litterers in Modica, the Municipality invests 45,000 euros in mobile cameras.

Modica enhances technological surveillance of the territory: five mobile cameras and an operations room are on the way

With the managerial determination no. 331 of February 12, 2026, the Municipality of Modica has awarded the supply of five high-resolution mobile cameras and the setup of a dedicated control room. The intervention, with a total value of approximately 45,700 euros, is fully funded by the Single Justice Fund of the Ministry of the Interior, thanks to a call for proposals aimed at municipalities with populations between 50,000 and 100,000, intercepted by the Ecology Office in coordination with the Prefecture of Ragusa.

Satisfaction from the Mayor, Maria Monisteri: “The signing of this provision marks a fundamental step forward for legality in our city.”

The Councilor for Ecology, Samuele Cannizzaro, highlights the technical and strategic choice of the operation: “We have strategically chosen high-resolution mobile cameras because they provide us with a flexibility that fixed systems do not have. We will be able to move the ‘hot spots’ of monitoring based on reports and emerging critical issues in rural and peripheral areas. The new control room, managed by the Ecology Sector and in collaboration with the Local Police, will be the beating heart of this operation, ensuring that every violation is detected and sanctioned with maximum technological precision. Despite the known financial difficulties of the Entity, our ability to intercept non-repayable ministerial funds allows us to invest in security without burdening the citizens. These cameras are not just a control tool, but a deterrent against those who offend the beauty of Modica by indiscriminately abandoning waste. Tolerance for these acts is zero.”

The package includes: - 5 state-of-the-art mobile cameras - a control room equipped with advanced connectivity - technical assistance guaranteed for two years

The operation is part of the Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Prefecture of Ragusa, confirming the institutional collaboration to protect urban decorum and the respect for legality throughout the municipal territory.
