Saint Joseph in Ragusa, it's time for the external celebration.
Here are the events of the weekend at the church in the historic city center.
Saint Joseph's Day enters its most intense phase. After the well-attended celebration last night, presided over by Father Giovanni Filesi, pastor of San Pier Giuliano Eymard, and attended by the pastor of Ss. Salvatore, Father Corrado Garozzo, the community is preparing to experience the most anticipated days of the calendar: a blend of spirituality, popular traditions, and moments of brotherhood that have always marked this occasion, deeply rooted in the hearts of the Ragusans.
Today will begin with the morning Eucharistic adoration, a time of silence and contemplation that leads into the evening services. The evening mass will be presided over by Canon Priest Giuseppe Ramondazzo and animated by the parish of Blessed Clement Marchisio. At the end, the community will walk together the Stations of the Cross, one of the most intense moments on the journey towards the solemnity.

Saturday is set to be packed with events. In the afternoon, the holy mass, celebrated by Father Francesco Mallemi, will be dedicated especially to the couples, who will receive a special blessing. At the same time, the cultural and folkloric program will offer a lively and engaging day: in the morning, there will be activities for the little ones with “Let's Play Together!”, while in the afternoon, the 7th Saint Joseph's Walk, a non-competitive walk open to all, will take place, organized in collaboration with the Free Walkers. The evening will conclude with a moment of celebration: music, dance, and camaraderie will enliven the hall on Via Garibaldi thanks to the performance by Carmelo Cultrera and the dance school “Dance with me”.
The Sunday represents the beating heart of the celebrations. The morning masses will guide the faithful towards one of the most anticipated events: the blessing of pets, at 10:15 on the church steps, a symbolic gesture that recalls the farming tradition and the deep bond of the community with its Patron. The 11:00 celebration, animated by the parish choir, will see children offering a floral tribute to Saint Joseph. In the afternoon, the Rosary will precede the 5:45 PM Mass; following this, the solemn procession with the venerated statue will traverse the main streets of the neighborhood, accompanied by singing, the band, and the warm participation of the faithful. The arrival in Saint Savior Square will be greeted by a fireworks display that will light up the church steps.
Also on Sunday, at 10, the opening of the sweet and savory fair is scheduled at the Don Giovanni Pluchino Pastoral Center, located at 139 Garibaldi Street. At 6 PM, in Saint Savior Square, the seventh tasting of “Mitilugghia” will take place.
The highlight of the celebrations will continue on Monday with the morning Eucharistic adoration and the evening Mass celebrated by Don Andrea La Terra, animated by the Saint Joseph Artisan Parish: an invitation to rediscover silence and gratitude after the intense days of the external feast.
