The Code of Ethics Explained to Medical Graduates: Meeting at the Order of Physicians of Caltanissetta
From the protection of life to empathy with the patient, from professional secrecy to respect for ethical rules, many interesting insights for future healthcare professionals.
"The Code of Ethics serves to remind us that medicine remains a profoundly human act in an era dominated by technology and digitalization. It regulates relationships with colleagues and ensures that the decorum and dignity of the profession are always preserved. Being a doctor today means not only applying protocols but also being able to interpret the need for care in accordance with the ethical rules that the medical community has established to protect both doctors and patients, which date back to the Hippocratic Oath." With these words from Dr. Salvatore Pasqualetto, Vice President of the Order of Surgeons and Dentists, the meeting with the graduates of the Degree Course in Medicine and Surgery of Caltanissetta concluded.
To the new future colleagues, Dr. Pasqualetto, who is also the secretary of the provincial FIMMG, extended his best wishes for a professional career full of success. In his speech on the Code of Ethics, he referred to some fundamental concepts such as the protection of life and health, the responsibility of the medical act, the care relationship between doctor and patient based on trust, empathy, and also informed consent, as well as professional secrecy to ensure the confidentiality of sensitive information.
