Modica, the scientific high school soars to the national mathematics olympiad

For the seventh time in its history, and for the third consecutive year, the Scientific High School of Modica confirms its excellence in the national mathematical landscape: the institution will participate in the national individual competition of the Mathematics Olympiad, scheduled to take place in Cesenatico from May 7 to 10.

The protagonist of this achievement is Giuseppe Damiano Scirè Scappuzzo, a student of V BSA, who fulfills a dream pursued with unwavering tenacity. To put it in the words of the famous Alfieri motto, Giuseppe “willed, willed, and willed very strongly” this goal.

His success is not a matter of chance, but the result of a perfect balance between extraordinary analytical skills, diligent study, rigorous technical preparation, and the ability to turn moments of discouragement into fuel to never give up.

This outcome represents not only a personal success, but also a launching pad towards a high-profile academic and professional future. Scirè's individual achievement fits into a vibrant and competitive school context. The Modica High School has indeed fielded strong teams in the team competitions as well: the female team honorably competed in the Cesenatico semifinals, achieving excellent scores; at the Catania tournament, competing in the Etna Polo (which brings together 12 institutions), it narrowly missed qualification, finishing in third place, just behind the top two qualifying positions. In the Modica Polo, the home team triumphed in its grouping, ranking as the first of the non-qualified in the overall aggregated ranking with schools from Puglia and Sardinia.

Despite some qualifications missed by a hair, the trend is clearly on the rise: the work of the teachers and the commitment of the students are building solid foundations in view of next school year's competitions. Beyond the numbers, the educational value of these challenges remains. Participating in a national final in Cesenatico means competing with the best talents in Italy, experiencing a climate of fair competition, and living an experience destined to remain etched in memory.
