A man who breaks into an electrical panel and leaves an entire area in the dark: this is the scene captured by the municipal surveillance cameras in Marina di Ragusa and made public directly by Mayor Peppe Cassì through his social media profile. The mayor released the video as a concrete example of the importance of monitoring systems in the territory, emphasizing how the images documented a repeated behavior over time.
The footage shows an individual approaching the electrical panel, tampering with it, and cutting off the power in an area of the seaside district, leaving the area completely in the dark. Cassì explained that this is not an isolated incident: according to reports, the same person has repeatedly forced the system to turn off the public lighting “periodically and for his own purposes”.
The images shared on social media represent only a snippet of what was recorded by the surveillance systems. The complete footage has already been handed over to the law enforcement agencies, which are proceeding with the necessary investigations to identify the perpetrator and clarify the reasons for the act.
The publication of the video by the mayor has reignited the debate on urban safety and the role of cameras in monitoring the most sensitive areas. An incident that, in addition to causing disruptions to the community, highlights how essential the presence of technological tools is to support investigative work and prevent potentially dangerous behaviors.
