Vittoria mourns the passing of Dino Genovese, a brilliant carving artist.
He was also a representative of island boxing: regional flyweight champion in 1965.
Vittoria loses one of its legends. Dino Genovese, master of restoration, an eclectic figure, has passed away at the age of 80, known everywhere and respected by many.
With wood, he seemed to dialogue: he returned a soul to it and made it timeless thanks to methods and tools from another era.
In his workshop, paints were not allowed. He preferred hot wax and alcohol, applied with a pad according to the practices of craftsmen from past centuries, so that the furniture he restored remained authentic, intact in their truth.
A fine inlayer and gilder, he represented an art that has faded away with his retirement.
His workshop, frequented by renowned artists and professionals from various fields – including Pietro Palma, who met him several times right there – was for years a crossroads of ideas, conversations, and unforgettable friendships.
Within those walls, memories of his past, not only professional but also athletic, often resurfaced: not everyone knows that he was a boxer of merit, capable of achieving significant results, particularly the title of regional flyweight champion in 1965.

In short, books could be written about Dino Genovese. The funeral will be held on Monday, March 16 at 4 PM at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Vittoria.
