The Consortium for the Protection of Modica Chocolate IGP is once again the protagonist of “Journey into Excellence”, an initiative promoted by the national airline ITA Airways in collaboration with Origin Italia, Qualivita Foundation, and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forests.

From March 16 to 25, the Mini Modica chocolate bars will be offered for tasting to passengers in Business Class on long-haul flights on 64 international flights departing from Rome Fiumicino.

“It is truly the case to say that Modica chocolate has taken flight! And it will soar through the skies of the world, leaving its good flavor everywhere. And its uniqueness. Once again, – stated Maria Monisteri, Mayor of Modica – the Consortium for the Protection of Modica Chocolate IGP has achieved the goal of launching the brand of our city. The Modica IGP chocolate is a distinctive sign of our territory and an extraordinary means to promote it, and being once again a protagonist of 'Journeys into Excellence', alongside our national airline, further certifies its value and its being a postcard of Modica in the World.”

“The Modica Chocolate – stated Salvo Peluso, President of the Consortium – unique in Europe to enjoy Protected Geographical Indication-IGP, is indeed an identity asset that has its roots in a centuries-old tradition, in the artisanal practices of Modica's shops, and in a low-temperature processing technique that has withstood the test of time, trends, and industrialization.”

The bars distributed on board will have dedicated packaging with a QR code that links to the Qualigeo database, in English, to explore the history, characteristics, area and method of production, appearance, taste, and culinary uses of this confectionery excellence.

Along with the tasting, travelers will also receive a commemorative postcard of Italian Cuisine, recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.

The Consortium expresses gratitude to the Minister of Agriculture Francesco Lollobrigida, to the President of Origin Cesare Baldrighi, to the General Director of the Qualivita Foundation Mauro Rosati, and to the President of ITA Airways Sandro Pappalardo for the involvement of Cioccolato di Modica IGP in the initiative "Journey into Excellence," and thanks the Municipality of Modica and the Sicilian Region for their sponsorship.
