Illness on A29, 42-year-old truck driver dies after pulling over: the promptness of the rescue avoids accidents

A 42-year-old truck driver from Catania, died this morning along the A29 Palermo–Trapani highway, after suffering a while driving his vehicle.

The man was traveling on the ramp towards Birgi when he began to feel unwell. With a final moment of clarity, he managed to pull the truck over to the emergency lane, avoiding accidents with other vehicles, before losing consciousness.

A volunteer from “Paceco Soccorso”, passing by in a medical car heading to Palermo, noticed the scene. Realizing the danger, he stopped and, along with some motorists, pulled the truck driver from the cabin and immediately began resuscitation efforts.

Shortly after, the 118 medical personnel arrived, who used the defibrillator and continued life-saving procedures. Despite prolonged attempts and the arrival of a second ambulance with a resuscitation doctor, there was nothing that could be done for the forty-two-year-old: death was confirmed at the scene.

The promptness of the rescue efforts and the truck driver's maneuver avoided more serious consequences on a very busy stretch of highway.
