Referendum, the No that advances in the polls worries Meloni: the premier's appeal to vote
Final sprint of the center-right ahead of the vote on March 22 and 23
They are showing themselves "very confident" about winning the referendum. But with just over two weeks until the date of the popular consultation, even in the polls the No is showing an increase, especially if turnout is below 50% of eligible voters. So much so that if Antonio Tajani urges his party to do more for the justice reform - a banner of the party that was once Silvio Berlusconi's - it is Giorgia Meloni herself who, on the radio, after having extensively addressed the dossier of the war at Europe's doorstep, makes a heartfelt appeal for voting.
Because those who want the separation of careers, if on March 22 and 23 they do not spend those "five minutes" to cast their yes in the ballot box, then "cannot complain".
"Now or never" says the prime minister on the early morning radio, listing what she believes are the pros of the reform. The same ones that Minister Carlo Nordio has been telling around Italy and recently also Undersecretary Alfredo Mantovano (who has almost an appointment a day). The end of factions, thanks to the lottery of the CSM, which "ensures less dependence on politics", and the reward for the "value of individual judges", as also stated by the National Council of FI which met precisely to launch the final sprint ahead of the electoral appointment.
The left, on the other hand, finds itself "lying", is the thesis of the prime minister and the center-right, because it has no arguments on the merits to criticize the reform, and has politicized the issue because on a technical level it would not know "what to say", her supporters repeat. Meloni then, as she has done many times in her recent public appearances (in videos on social media or interviews on TV) points the finger at those "judges who block" deportations and repatriations of illegal migrants who are also, and she cites a specific case, "rapists": where are, she asks, "the feminists?". The response from the female MPs of the Pd does not take long, as they accuse Meloni instead of "using the drama of rapes for the referendum campaign", also referring to a post by FdI that has relayed the message of the prime minister.
In an attempt to lower the tones "following the wise indications of Sergio Mattarella", the Minister of Justice is trying, who says he is also ready to "shake hands" with the Attorney General Aldo Policastro, after the tensions of early February. Nordio is not afraid that the winds of war coming from the Middle East, after the attacks by the US and Israel on Iran, could distract from the referendum.
Although the fear, off the record, is quite widespread in the center-right, the Ipsos poll showing No prevailing with turnout at 42% has not gone unnoticed at all. Even in Sanremo "the yes won", jokes the President of the Senate Ignazio La Russa, referring to the title of the song by Sal da Vinci. But to achieve a result that seemed much more certain just a few weeks ago, everyone in the center-right says, it is necessary to push in the last two weeks of the electoral campaign. The same Meloni, is a widely shared hope in her party, could participate in a public event in Milano on March 12, organized by FdI. A marathon in support of the yes in the theater (at the teatro Parenti) which should be attended by the entire party leadership, including ministers. However, the final decision has not yet been made, also linked to the evolution of the Middle Eastern crisis.
