Israel announces new wave of attacks against Tehran; smoke over Mehrabad and interception with explosion above Dubai
The conflict enters its second week. Arab League foreign ministers will meet to discuss Iranian attacks against several members of the group
Israel announced today a new wave of "large-scale" attacks against government sites in Tehran, as the escalation of the war in the Middle East enters its second week. Smoke was seen rising from the Mehrabad International Airport in the Iranian capital.
The Israeli army also stated that over 80 fighter jets have completed a wave of attacks against Iranian military sites, missile launchers, and other targets in Tehran and central Iran.
The Iranian army, on the other hand, declared in a statement that its Navy launched a massive wave of drone attacks, with heavy fire, targeting American bases in Abu Dhabi and Kuwait in the early hours of the morning for a couple of hours.
Meanwhile, an interception operation took place this morning over the Dubai Airport in the United Arab Emirates, with witnesses reporting a loud explosion followed by a column of smoke in the sky. The Dubai government confirmed "a minor incident due to debris falling after an interception" and that no one was injured, denying "the circulating news on social media regarding incidents at Dubai International Airport." Earlier, local media reported two explosions in Dubai and one in the capital of Bahrain.
The foreign ministers of the Arab League will hold an emergency meeting tomorrow to discuss the Iranian attacks against several members of the group, the deputy secretary-general of the organization told AFP. The meeting, which will be held via videoconference, was requested by Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Jordan, and Egypt, said Hossam Zaki.
U.S. and Israeli forces launched a massive air campaign against Iran on February 28. The Iran reacted with attacks against Israel and Gulf countries.
The Secretary General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, had previously condemned the Iranian attacks, calling them "fully reprehensible" and "not only a blatant violation of international law and the United Nations Charter, but also an attack on the principles of good neighborliness." He added that the attacks "create an unprecedented state of hostility between Iran and its Arab neighbors." "This is a serious Iranian strategic mistake, which I hope they correct by immediately stopping these attacks."
