The Carabinieri of the Operational Nucleus of the Piazza Verdi Company dealt a heavy blow to the drug market in the center of Palermo. During an observation service, the military arrested a 34-year-old of Catanese origins, residing in the Sicilian capital, on charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking in narcotic substances. The man's excessive nervousness raised the suspicions of law enforcement: his cautious movements and constant glances over his shoulder while returning home triggered an immediate search of the premises.

The control, conducted with the essential support of the Villagrazia Dog Unit, featured the Belgian shepherd Nadia. The dog's sense of smell led the Carabinieri first to a wicker basket, where 16 packages of cocaine were hidden, and then to the main hiding place: the gas stove compartment. Here, two bricks of pure cocaine weighing a total of 2 kilograms were concealed. According to investigators' estimates, the load, once cut and put on the market, would have yielded illicit profits of around 300,000 euros.

The narcotic substance was seized and sent to the Provincial Command Analysis Laboratory for technical examinations, while the 34-year-old was taken to the "Lorusso-Pagliarelli" prison. The operation confirms the constant attention of law enforcement in monitoring suspicious movements in the heart of the city to combat large-scale drug trafficking.
