Senate approves resolution on the Prime Minister's communications: condemning Iran's destabilizing role
With 102 yes, 66 no, and 1 abstention: support for the Iranian people, protection of the European Union's borders, and strengthening of the Aspides and Atalanta maritime missions
The Senate chamber approved with 102 votes in favor, 66 against, and 1 abstention the majority resolution on the communications of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. The document aims, among other things, to "condemn Iran's destabilizing role throughout the region, expressing its full support for the Iranian people in their struggle for freedom". Another commitment is to "reiterate the importance of safeguarding the integrity and security of the European Union's land, air, and maritime borders, and to ensure that they are effectively protected".
The majority aims to "support and enhance, in all European and international forums, the fundamental role of the defensive maritime operations Aspides and Atalanta" and "to promote, in coordination with European institutions and member states, a possible adaptation and strengthening of such missions, should the situation on the ground require it".
Other opposition resolutions are excluded or deemed partially absorbed.
