Trump from the Oval Office: "If we hadn't done all this, you would have had a nuclear war and then World War III."
The American president also announced that he has postponed the trip to Beijing; he defends the offensive against Iran and calls for international assistance.
"I don't know about the trip to Beijing. I would like to go to China but I feel I have to be here because there is war. I might delay the trip a bit: we have requested a one-month postponement." This was stated by Donald Trump, explaining that the visit to Beijing, scheduled for April, might be postponed.
"The war will end soon but not this week," the president added, asserting that Iran is no longer the "bully of the Middle East." "We hit them hard and they deserve it," he noted, emphasizing that "many countries should thank us" for what has been done in Iran. "And they shouldn't just thank us but help us. What surprises me is that they are not eager to help us."
Trump then claimed: "I am very proud of what has been done" in Iran, specifying that the operation against Tehran is for the world. "I want war less than almost anyone else," he stated again, stressing that if Iran had nuclear weapons, they would use them.
The president spoke from the Oval Office alongside Vice President JD Vance. When asked if he agreed with the intervention, Vance replied: "I agree with the president that Iran must not have nuclear weapons. We should all hope for the success of this operation" and added that, "if we hadn't done this, you would have had a nuclear war that would have evolved into World War III".
"I trust President Trump, he will get the job done", said JD Vance in response to whether he fully agreed with the war in Iran. According to reports, the vice president is among the advisers who had suggested to the president not to attack. Vance then accused the journalist who asked the question of trying to create a rift between him and Trump.
