In the late afternoon yesterday, a new accident occurred on the old provincial road connecting Scicli to Sampieri (SP 40). A black Dacia Duster went off the road: doors completely torn off, bodywork smashed, and deep dents on one side, as documented by the images taken at the scene.
The vehicle remained stopped on the edge of the road, while behind it, the lights of cars in a queue were visible.
According to the first information provided by some witnesses, there are no serious injuries reported.
A relief that, however, cannot lessen the attention on a problem that has been recurring for too long.
This out-of-town artery, which has previously been the scene of even fatal accidents, continues to be indicated by residents, motorists, and local committees as a highly dangerous stretch.
Among the most reported critical issues are the damaged road surface, deep potholes, lacking signage and lighting, and — as happened in this case — the formation of large puddles of water with every rain, real traps for drivers, especially in conditions of poor visibility or with the onset of darkness.
