Attack on the demographic services office of the Municipality of Vittoria, the Cgil: "Security measures need to be activated"
The staff is too few. A strengthening of the workforce is essential.

The Fp Cgil Ragusa expresses deep concern over the events that occurred last Friday in the Demographic Services of the Municipality of Vittoria, where a citizen, in an act of unheard-of violence, overturned tables and chairs and punched the shatterproof glass.
The man is said to have been reported for interruption of public service. According to reports from the staff, the outburst of anger was related to a registry practice, specifically the housing suitability certificate.
Such behavior, the union emphasizes, finds no justification and involved the entire office, causing scenes of panic among employees: some locked themselves in their rooms, finding relief only with the arrival of the state police and local police officers.
Just a month ago, the Fp Cgil had already reported, in a formal note, the serious staff shortage in various areas of the Agency, including the Demographic Services, made particularly vulnerable by numerous retirements and serious health issues, never compensated by new hires.
The union believes it is no longer acceptable for staff to work in unsafe conditions and calls for immediate and adequate interventions. Among the proposed measures are the introduction of effective tools to prevent further incidents and the evaluation of resorting to a private security service in the most exposed departments.
“We are close and supportive of the workers” – explains the general secretary Fp Cgil Ragusa, Nunzio Fernandez – “confident that the municipal administration will want to intervene with timeliness, adopting all necessary protections to ensure security, peace of mind, and full functionality of the offices, so that workers – already burdened by a significant workload – do not become victims again of aggressive and unpredictable behaviors.”
