In Catania, the collapse on Via Naumachia is a battleground (political): "It's useless to discredit, the Administration is at work"
The clarifications of councilor Alessia Trovato (Trantino Sindaco list) following the j'accuse from the opposition colleague.
The case of via Naumachia, in the San Cristoforo neighborhood, closed to traffic in the section between via Santissima Trinità and via Abate Ferrara due to the collapse that occurred on December 16 of last year, risks turning into a political battleground.
In recent days, it was municipal councilor Florinda Panzarella who pointed the finger at the municipal administration of Catania "for the road blocked for almost three months. We are tired of seeing our popular neighborhoods treated as second-class neighborhoods."
Now, Alessia Trovato, municipal councilor from the "Trantino Sindaco" list, is clarifying and defending the actions of the Trantino Administration. "In recent days, the councilor from the First Municipality (in opposition) - Trovato declares to La Sicilia - publicly stated that nothing has been done in these three months, effectively discrediting the work carried out so far by the institutions and the competent offices. The official documents instead show that administrative and technical activities have been initiated right from the start. If we truly want to work for the good of the city and its citizens, let's do it by spreading correct information, based on documents and facts, and not fueling controversies or inaccurate narratives that only risk creating confusion among residents. My commitment remains to continue to follow the matter so that we can achieve, as soon as possible, the definitive securing of the area and the reopening of the road, restoring normalcy to the residents of the neighborhood."
"Yesterday morning - announces councilor Trovato - Civil Protection Assessor Daniele Bottino also informed me that last week the owner of the property committed to starting the necessary interventions for the securing of the building, a fundamental step to subsequently proceed with the reopening of the road."
In the past few weeks - following the initiative of councilor Trovato - a meeting of the V Permanent Council Commission of the Municipality of Catania was held on via Naumachia, at the corner with via Abate Ferrara, to assess the situation after the partial collapse of a building that resulted in the closure of the road and significant inconveniences for residents and businesses in the area. Numerous citizens attended the meeting, along with two councilors from the first municipality, Trovato and Bertolo, the assessor Bottino, and technicians from the municipal Civil Protection, who detailed the administrative acts already adopted by the competent offices. The documents presented reveal that the Provincial Command of the Fire Brigade intervened, confirming the serious state of degradation of the building and the risk of further collapses. The property was therefore seized on December 18, 2025, while the Municipality has identified the owners and initiated the administrative procedure aimed at securing the building. The municipal offices have also warned the owners to proceed with structural inspections and the necessary interventions to eliminate hazardous conditions, including possible demolitions of the dangerous parts and the implementation of provisional works for safety. Until the completion of the interventions, traffic restrictions and access limitations to some nearby properties remain in effect, measures adopted to ensure the protection of public and private safety.
