Schlein: from the left coalition to the primaries. "We will reach out to Meloni as needed"
The national secretary of the Pd, a guest on La 7, also addressed the urgency of cutting fuel taxes.
Elly Schlein, guest on "In altre parole" on LA7, has relaunched the project of the broad field and the prospect of a shared leadership of the coalition.
"Three years ago the broad field was divided and today there is a coalition: we presented it already in the regional elections and we have won several times. It is clear that there is work to be done and we will also agree on how to choose who leads. We will choose the method together: there are those who make agreements like the right, but other ways can also be found, we can hold primaries to which I have already expressed my availability."
Regarding institutional contacts, the secretary of the Democratic Party clarified: "We agree that we will be in touch whenever necessary. What did I tell her? What I also told her in Parliament: it's great to have an open channel but she must also open it with Trump and Netanyahu to tell them to stop this illegal war that Italians do not want to pay for."
Schlein then attacked the government over the high fuel prices related to the conflict: "Every day this war, according to Codacons, is costing 16 and a half million more for Italians just in fuel. Is it possible that after two weeks the government has still done nothing? We have asked to activate mobile excise duties and Meloni said she agrees, but she needs to hurry up."
And again: "When the price of gasoline increases, so does what goes into the state coffers: according to Codacons, the state collects 9.5 million a day more. We ask to return this part to citizens and businesses by lowering the excise duties. I ask Meloni to return to the gas station where she used to go to say that excise duties should be eliminated, to see the prices to which gasoline has risen."
On the front of justice reform and the referendum, the Democratic leader reiterated: "I would never have made a reform that does not improve justice, we will defeat this government in the next elections." And she accused the executive: "We have a government that wanted to exploit this reform and the referendum to delegitimize judges, while we have carried out a substantive discussion."
