The Pd listens to Modica: "In the Upper part of the city, the passion of the residents wins in the face of the absence of institutions."
Sifting through the various issues of traffic, decorum, and commercial desertification.
A moment of the meeting
It concluded with broad and careful participation, rich in insights, the appointment that took place on Saturday morning in Santa Teresa Square, a crucial stop in the territorial listening campaign “The Democratic Party Listens to Modica”, promoted by the Democratic Party of Modica.
At the center of the discussion with residents were the critical issues and prospects of Modica Alta, a neighborhood that today suffers from isolation not only geographically but, above all, politically.
From the debate, the knots of traffic, the progressive desertification of local commerce, the lack of ordinary maintenance, and the urgency of a genuine urban recovery plan emerged clearly.
Particular attention was given to the protection and promotion of the monumental heritage, with a specific reference to the Chiostro di Santa Maria di Gesù, emblematic of a beauty still waiting to be fully enhanced and returned to stable collective enjoyment, capable of becoming a driver of development.
“What we experienced today is the dramatic distance of politics from this fundamental part of the city,” declares the city secretary Francesco Stornello.
“Modica Alta seems to have fallen off the administration's radar, left to manage daily emergencies and degradation on its own. However, the most extraordinary element we take away from Santa Teresa Square is the immense love and passion that residents have for their neighborhood. Our deep gratitude goes to them: this energy is the best hope for the future, as well as the foundation on which we want to build.”
The Democratic Party announces its commitment to translate these requests into concrete political action. The goal is not only to denounce what does not work but, also through new moments of listening, to integrate these voices into a comprehensive project that recognizes Modica as the home of all, without first-class or second-class neighborhoods.
“We will not let this enthusiasm fall into the void,” concludes Stornello. “Our daily political action and our vision for the city start right here, from the desire to restore dignity, safety, and dynamism to Modica Alta, putting at the center the people who make it alive every day.”
