Health crisis in Pozzallo, Mayor Ammatuna sounds the alarm
Healthcare services at a standstill: the Pta has been inactive for a year
The mayor of Pozzallo Roberto Ammatuna
In Pozzallo, the healthcare service network has reached a threshold of emergency no longer tolerable, reflecting a collapse that affects the entire Sicilian Region.
In a city of almost 20 thousand residents, equipped with a port of primary importance, an industrial area, and a hotspot, the lack of essential services exposes the population to concrete health risks and, in some cases, to their very safety.
The dysfunctions involve several operational junctions. The community center on Via Orione, inaugurated after the renovation of the building, today is unable to guarantee even the presence of a medical unit during daytime hours, failing in its function.
At the same time, the Territorial Emergency Facility (Pte) is forced to operate with only one doctor, a circumstance that prevents 24-hour shift coverage as prescribed by current regulations.
To the already compromised situation are added infrastructural criticalities. The “small hospital” on Via Napoli needs urgent extraordinary maintenance interventions, while the construction site for the new Territorial Assistance Facility (Pta) on Viale Australia has been stalled for a year, with the Asp unable to indicate timelines for the resumption of work.
According to the municipal administration and, in particular, according to Mayor Roberto Ammatuna, “Pozzallo represents tangible proof of a regional healthcare system marked by inefficiencies and serious corrupt practices, raising protests not only from the opposition but also from members of the same regional government majority.”
