Victory, the Gioiosa team accuses: "We took the field with 7 because we were attacked in the locker room"
The harsh denunciation from the Peloritano association is set to open a case
The Gioiosa player who got injured right away, leaving his team with six players and effectively ending the match
Surreal afternoon with outlines still to be deciphered was experienced today at the “Gianni Cosimo” municipal stadium in Vittoria, where the Eccellenza (Group B) match between Fc Vittoria and Asd Polisportiva Gioiosa was played under entirely anomalous conditions. The visiting team, in fact, took the field with only seven players, the minimum required number to start an official match. Then, one player got injured and the referee was forced to end the contest. A probable 3-0 forfeit in favor of the home team is expected.
However, it was the Messina club itself that reported the reasons for this decision through a post shared on its social media channels, openly discussing a “violent and cowardly attack” suffered by some members inside the changing rooms of the sports facility. An incident that, according to what Gioiosa reported, made it impossible to field the entire squad called up for the away match.
The club expressed regret and bitterness over what happened, apologizing to its fans “who, as always, did not fail to show their support,” despite the team being forced to play the match under conditions of clear numerical inferiority. The post concludes by announcing that the club president will intervene shortly, indicating that the matter does not end here and that the club intends to fully clarify what occurred.
The incident, of extreme seriousness, must be verified and risks having repercussions not only in sports but also disciplinary and judicial. It will now be the task of the competent authorities – both federal and otherwise to reconstruct what happened in the “Gianni Cosimo” changing rooms and ascertain any responsibilities.
In the meantime, the image remains of a Sunday that should have been about sports but instead turned into a black page for Sicilian amateur football. Beyond the responsibilities that, as mentioned, are all yet to be verified and, if necessary, established.
