Vittoria-Gioiosa, result to be validated: the decision of the sports judge. The regional committee is investigating.
The match was interrupted just a few seconds after it started. Then the accusations from the guests: "We were attacked in the locker room."
The Gioiosa player who got injured right away left his team with six players and effectively ended the match.
The Sunday that was supposed to narrate a mid-high ranking challenge between Vittoria and Polisportiva Gioiosa turned into one of the most controversial pages of Sicilian Excellence. The match on March 8, 2026 lasted only the time of two or three passes: a few seconds, perhaps a minute, before the referee declared a definitive suspension. The result, as is known, was not validated, and the matter is now in the hands of the Sports Judge, who in the official statement acknowledged the notice of appeal submitted by the visiting club, reserving the right to make any substantive decision.
The dynamics are now clear: Gioiosa arrived at the “Gianni Cosimo” stadium with only seven players, the minimum number to start a match. A choice that had already left fans and insiders perplexed. But the real twist came immediately after the kickoff: one of the seven Peloritani players declared that he had injured himself, leaving the team with six men. At that point, the regulations left no alternatives: with fewer than seven players on the field, the match cannot continue.
Up to this point, it would already be an unusual story. But what happened before the match transformed a sporting episode into a case destined to be discussed for a long time. Through an official statement, Polisportiva Gioiosa reported a “violent and cowardly aggression” suffered by some of its members in the changing rooms of the stadium. A version of events that, if confirmed, would radically change the interpretation of the entire affair. The club explained that precisely because of the aggression, it was not possible to field the complete roster, forcing the team to take the field with the bare minimum.
The accusations are extremely serious and have immediately attracted the attention of the federal bodies. The president of the Regional Committee LND Sicily, Sandro Morgana, intervened firmly, reminding that “winning is only possible in respect of the rules and opponents” and announcing rigorous checks on what happened. The investigations, in fact, are already underway, and further inquiries are not excluded even at the state level should criminally relevant profiles emerge.
Meanwhile, the Vittoria – which according to regulations should receive the win by forfeit – remains in wait like everyone else. Because this is no longer just a suspended match: it is a case that intertwines sports, safety, responsibility, and the credibility of the championship. And while the Sports Judge evaluates the appeal and the official documents, the surreal image of a match that started and ended almost at the same moment remains, along with the weight of a complaint that could completely rewrite the story of that Sunday.
One thing is certain: the matter will not be resolved soon. And Sicilian football, once again, finds itself dealing with a chapter that has nothing to do with the game, but a lot with what happens off the field.
