About 360 athletes took part this morning in Caltanissetta for the Grand Prix Sicilia road running event over a distance of 10 kilometers.
Among the most applauded participants is Francesco Scarcipino Pattarello, born in 1941: at 85 years old, he completed the entire course, eliciting admiration from both runners and the public.
The event, organized by Asd Marathon Caltanissetta chaired by Giuseppe Zagarella, took place under a persistent rain, which made the course even more challenging.
Despite the adverse conditions and the fatigue of the distance, Pattarello — registered with Fiamma San Gregorio di Catania — finished the race to the applause and encouragement of spectators and fellow competitors throughout the entire circuit.
On the competitive front, the men's race was won by Aziz Mohamed Hammedi, an athlete of Moroccan origins representing Universitas Palermo, who finished in 33'47.
In the women's category, victory went to Virginia Salemi, the first to cross the finish line set up inside the Tomaselli stadium, in 39'10.
The Nisseno event of the regional circuit attracted runners from various provinces of the Island and provided a remarkable testimony of sports passion thanks to the participation of the oldest athlete in the race.
