Undersecretary Morelli: 'The bridge over the Strait is not a flag: it is the spring of the south'

“The bridge over the Strait is not a flag. From the government's perspective, it is a great opportunity for the development of Calabria and Sicily in particular, but also for the revitalization of the entire south. And this is the framework within which we have politically decided to build the bridge and technically to rely on the best minds that the world has in the engineering and industrial fields. Economically, as we have always said, the finances are there, so it would be a mistake not to undertake a project that from our point of view is the spring of the South.” This was stated by the Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Alessandro Morelli, today in Reggio Calabria at a conference on “Safety and protection of infrastructure in the territory”, promoted by Ansfisa in collaboration with RemTech Expo.

Morelli excluded that there are problems regarding hydrogeological risk, but “there are critical issues that arise when you undertake a project as grandiose and demanding as this one. The government - he added - is taking all necessary actions to overcome them thanks to the contribution of technicians, universities, engineers.” The issue is often seen as a political confrontation between the left and the right, but there are technicians, universities, and engineers who have invested their time, public finances, and all the experience we can bring to bear to realize a bridge overcoming the critical issues. We are talking about the most important work of the century, of the third millennium, so for this reason, it is not the politicians who want it, it is the citizens, who, even with the electoral result in the last regional elections, which for us was the real referendum on the bridge, have absolutely rewarded us and endorsed the choice to say yes to the bridge. And I emphasize that the company that will carry out the work is a company that the world envies us.
