After last Sunday’s boom in visitors with 5,000 entries, there are only a few days left for free entries to the Greek shipwreck museum. The management of the Archaeological Park of Gela has announced that, in accordance with the press release from the Regional Department of Cultural Heritage and Sicilian Identity on the occasion of the inauguration of the Museum, free visits will be allowed until Friday, March 6.

From the following day, March 7, visits will be available through the payment of an entrance ticket of 6 euros (reduced 3 euros) and free admission as provided by law and every first Sunday of the month.

As every year, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, entry for women will be free on March 8.

The opening hours remain confirmed, as scheduled: from Tuesday to Friday from 9 AM to 1 PM (last entry at 12:30 PM); Saturday and Sunday: from 9 AM to 1 PM (last entry at 12:30 PM) and from 3 PM to 6 PM (last entry at 5:30 PM). Monday, on the other hand, is a weekly closing day. Another day when entry will be free is Tuesday, March 10. It is the Day of Culture dedicated in Sicily to Sebastiano Tusa (the archaeologist, superintendent of the sea and councilor for Cultural Heritage to whom many people from Gela would like the Greek shipwreck museum to be dedicated) and the Region organizes free entry in all its museums and sites throughout its territory. This will also apply to the building that has hosted the Greek ship since February 24. Regarding school visits, free entry remains available upon reservation via the archaeological park's email. Next Tuesday, another initiative organized by the Superintendency and the Municipality is in the works concerning the archaeological site of Orto Fontanelle, where preventive archaeology excavations are bringing to light a neighborhood of the Greek city.
