Messina: emergency in Torre Faro, urgent intervention to secure piazza dell'Angelo
Torre Faro: securing the seaside of piazza dell'Angelo, intervention of 1 million and 70 thousand euros with specialized work and landscape constraints; the redevelopment of 2 million and 300 thousand euros, however, causes inconvenience to merchants and residents
Messina. An intervention to secure the seaside area of Piazza dell'Angelo in Torre Faro.
The issues that emerged during the urban redevelopment works of the village were at the center of the services conference convened by the Technical Services Department of Palazzo Zanca.
The historic square of the fishing village is affected by various forms of instability that have created conditions of instability and structural degradation that compromise the functionality and safety of the existing structures.
The Council approved the Guideline Document for the design of the safety intervention last January, with a total amount of 1 million and 70 thousand euros.
The document describes the current state of the area and defines guidelines, operational criteria, methods, and timelines for the execution of the works.
The identified technical solution involves highly specialized work, including geomorphological and hydraulic consolidation through pile walls, cement waterproofing, and nailing systems.
These complex interventions must be carried out in a particularly delicate regulatory context, characterized by landscape, environmental, and urban planning constraints.
For this reason, the services conference was convened to obtain all the necessary opinions from the entities with direct competence.
The Administration's goal is to accelerate the completion of the design activities to quickly reach the operational phase of the consolidation works, ensuring safety for the area and the protection of one of the most characteristic places in the fishing village of Torre Faro.
An area that, at this moment, remains closed.
Meanwhile, after initial delays, the construction site for the redevelopment is progressing. The new pavement has been laid, and the first elements of the new urban furniture are already visible.
But the price paid by residents and merchants is truly high. The summer season is now just around the corner. In recent weeks, there have been no shortages of controversies directed at Palazzo Zanca. Those who live in Torre Faro are now hoping for the completion of the works in a timely manner.
The interventions began last September: a contract worth a total of 2 million and 300 thousand euros, funded by the Pn Metro Plus.
The traffic restrictions, implemented to ensure construction activities, are causing inconveniences for merchants and residents. However, a turning point should be near. The focus is now on Angelo Square, before it’s too late.
