The health status of Sicilian subsidiaries: parks are doing well, the Highway Consortium is struggling, but there is an undisputed king

The financial picture of the companies in which the Region participates emerges from the consolidated balance sheet, which is positive but is the result of the sum between virtuous entities and others much less so

How are the regional companies and entities doing? Today, the "periodic visit" of the entities surrounding the Region will take place in the council. This is the so-called "consolidated", that is, the budget of the subsidiaries that must be incorporated into the regional budget. From the first signals, the overall data would be positive. That is to say, between losses and profits, the combined budget of the Region and entities would have recorded a surplus of almost 3.5 billion euros, with an increase of nearly 97 million.

But obviously, the overall result, which refers to the 2024 budgets, is the result of the sum of virtuous accounts and those in more difficulty. This is the case, for example, of the Cas, the entity of the Sicilian highways, which has recorded the most evident "red": about 46.5 million in losses. A negative sign also for the item referring to the Sicily-Irfis Fund (7.8 million, in 2024), while the Entity for agricultural development has recorded a -2.9 million euros.

There are also two-faced realities. Same sector, but very different results. This is the case, for example, of the Regional Entities for the right to study, where the new presidents have just arrived: for instance, while the Ersu of Catania has recorded a deficit of one million, the counterpart in Palermo, led during those years by the manager Margherita Rizza as commissioner, has recorded a profit of about 15.78 million euros. Rizza is the current commissioner of the Symphonic Orchestra Foundation which has recorded a profit of 400,000 euros.

There are also lights and shadows in the sector of public housing. Among all the Iacp, the one that has recorded the largest loss is that of Trapani (minus 3.3 million), while that of Palermo has proven to be quite virtuous, with a profit of 7.2 million euros.

Meanwhile, the Sicilian park entities are smiling. Almost all are in surplus or at least close to break-even. Among them, Naxos and Taormina stand out, which in 2024 recorded a surplus of 4.1 million euros. But the others have also done well, as is the case with Morgantina (+1.2 million), Segesta (+1.3 million), Valley of the Temples (+1.9 million), Etna (1.2 million).

Siciliacque is also doing well, with a surplus of 1.4 million euros. But the "king" of the budgets remains the Pension Fund. The entity, very wealthy and not by chance called upon by the Region when it comes to carrying out some real estate operation, recorded in 2024 a profit of over 103 million euros.
