Blood and terror in a pizzeria during the height of Carnival celebrations. A 61-year-old man, already known to law enforcement, has been arrested by the State Police on charges of stalking his ex-wife and aggravated personal injury to the woman's new partner. The preliminary investigations judge of the Court of Catania, at the request of the local Public Prosecutor's Office, issued a custody order in prison against him.
According to the investigators' reconstruction, during the Carnival festivities, the man allegedly tracked down the couple while they were in a local establishment. Upon entering the pizzeria, he reportedly launched himself ferociously at his ex-wife's new partner, first hitting him with a beer glass to the head — causing a deep lacerated-contused wound — and then, while the victim was already lying on the ground, further attacking him with the pizza plate and overturning the entire table on him.
Some patrons of the establishment present at the scene managed to stop the 61-year-old's fury before the arrival of the State Police officers, who then proceeded to detain him. The victim's condition turned out to be serious: an emergency transfer to the local hospital's emergency room was necessary.
However, the incident took on even more disturbing aspects during subsequent checks. The officers discovered that the man had hidden a GPS device behind the rear license plate of his ex-wife's car, with which he monitored her every movement in real-time — a system of obsessive control that also triggered the stalking charge.
This is not the first time the 61-year-old has been involved in violent incidents: in the past, according to what has emerged from the investigations, he allegedly assaulted his daughter as well. The man has been taken to prison, where he will remain at the disposal of the judicial authority.
