The smart camera arrives at Porta di Ponte: real-time checks on access, license plates, insurance, and inspections
New high-resolution cameras on Via Atenea: more security for shopping and nightlife
The new "smart" camera of the ZTL has been installed at the Porta di Ponte access point, which will allow the local police to operate in real time, capturing the license plates of vehicles entering and exiting, and when the ZTL is "active", the system will automatically record the passage of unauthorized vehicles, comparing them with a list of authorized vehicles and also providing all the information necessary to verify insurance coverage and vehicle inspection. Soon, a new video surveillance system will be operational on via Atenea, active 24 hours a day, which will help ensure a greater security presence in some of the most sensitive areas of the "city lounge".
New tools that will immediately facilitate the collection of violations and raise the level of security in areas of nightlife and shopping.
The new electronic eye monitoring the entrance of the ZTL at Porta di Ponte supports the most advanced technologies, playing a key role in monitoring and regulating traffic flow, successfully capturing information from vehicle license plates. The acquisition process occurs in real time, allowing for immediate control. Each time a vehicle passes through the entrance, the camera captures the image of the license plate and converts it into digital data. This data is then transmitted to the central system which immediately verifies whether the vehicle is authorized to transit.
From Porta di Ponte to via Atenea, where the company commissioned by the Municipality of Agrigento has completed the installation of the video surveillance, funded by the Ministry of the Interior as part of the complementary operational program "Legality". The route was chosen over others as it is considered sensitive due to traffic and risk of criminal events. The goal is to strengthen territorial control and crime prevention in the "heart" of the city. These are high-resolution cameras, equipped with license plate reading systems and smart sensors, connected to a control room that will be linked with the police operations room. The primary objective is to ensure constant monitoring, especially on weekends, improving the capacity for prevention and rapid intervention.
