The Lions Club Ragusa Host has renewed this year one of the most emblematic services of Lions Clubs International: the international contest "Poster for Peace", which for over thirty years has involved millions of students worldwide, inviting them to express through art the universal value of peace.
The local edition recorded exceptional participation: all the first-level secondary schools in the area enthusiastically took part, presenting over a hundred works. An eloquent figure that confirms the sensitivity of the younger generation and the decisive role of art education teachers, who are capable of guiding students in a creative journey and reflection on this year's theme, "United as One".
In a historical moment marked by conflicts and international tensions, from Ukraine to the Middle East, the students' works took on an even more significant meaning. Symbols, colors, and images conveyed a clear message: unity, dialogue, and solidarity remain indispensable pillars for building a future of peace.
The award ceremony took place yesterday in the evocative setting of the Badia Church, in Piazza San Giovanni, in the presence of Lions and civil authorities. An intense moment, experienced with emotion by students, families, and teachers, during which the awards provided by the Club were presented.
Great satisfaction for the result of the first-place work at the city level, also recognized as the best drawing in the entire district and admitted to the regional phase of the contest. A milestone that highlights the talent of the young author, Giulia Lacognata from III A of the "Quasimodo" Institute, and, at the same time, the commitment of the schools and the entire educational community.
Additionally, it is worth noting the two special awards offered by the grandchildren of the Lions member Letizia Gerotti, who passed away in January, awarded in her memory.
The president of the Lions Club Ragusa Host, Carmen Occhipinti, emphasized the profound value of the initiative: “Every year our young people surprise us with the maturity with which they tackle such a significant theme. Through art, they manage to express what often adults struggle to say: that peace is not an abstract concept, but a daily commitment made of respect, listening, and responsibility. Seeing so many schools participate with enthusiasm confirms that we are sowing well and that this service continues to be a bridge between generations, an invitation to look at the world with new eyes.”
“Peace Poster” thus confirms itself as one of the most identity-defining services of the Lions Ragusa Host, proudly promoted every year, renewing the commitment to spreading the values of solidarity, brotherhood, and civil coexistence. In a complex and fragile period, the initiative takes on an even deeper meaning: through their works, the young people become true ambassadors of peace, reminding everyone that, despite differences, we are truly “united as one”.
