Preventing means getting ahead of the disease, turning a simple check-up into a true life insurance policy. With this spirit, on the occasion of the month dedicated to the prevention of colorectal cancer, the Screening Management Center of the ASP of Agrigento has announced a special Open Day for Monday, March 9, 2026.

From 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, the hall of the "San Giovanni di Dio" hospital in Agrigento will become the headquarters of health: the ASP staff, alongside volunteers from the Amico Onlus Association, will be available to citizens to provide information, support, and guidance on the early diagnosis pathways active in the area.

Free screenings: the complete guide for citizens

The initiative is not limited to guidance but also offers direct and free access to essential health exams for both men and women:

Cervical cancer prevention: Women aged 25 to 29 will be able to undergo the Pap Test, while for the age group 30-64 years, the HPV DNA Test is available. Both tests will be available with direct access (no appointment needed) at the Family Counseling Centers, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

Mammography Screening: A fundamental service for women aged 50 to 69. Free mammograms will be available at the Radiology departments of the hospitals in Agrigento, Licata, and Sciacca (continuous hours 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM), as well as at the Community House of Agrigento and the Canicattì Polyclinic (8:00 AM – 2:00 PM).

Colorectal cancer: Men and women aged 50 to 69 are invited to pick up the free kit for screening at dedicated points or directly at their trusted pharmacy.

Early diagnosis as a healing weapon

Prevention is the most powerful tool we have in the fight against cancer,” the organizers remind us. Acting in the early stages of a disease drastically increases the chances of successful therapies and allows for less invasive treatment pathways. The Open Day on Monday thus represents an unmissable opportunity to take care of oneself in a simple, free, and without the delays of bureaucracy.

Participation is free and open to all residents: an invitation that the ASP extends to anyone who falls within the age groups outlined by national protocols.
