The eastern quay of the Sanità pier was inaugurated today at the port of Trapani, following the consolidation works promoted by the Port System Authority of Western Sicily. The intervention, with a total cost of 8 million euros, is part of a broader program for the adjustment of the seabed, initiated to allow the access and mooring of large ships, particularly cruise ships.

The dredging operations have brought the seabed to about minus ten meters in most of the internal water area, and to minus eleven meters in the outer harbor. The Sanità quay will once again accommodate the ferries to the Egadi Islands and Pantelleria.

The works, which have secured and stabilized the quay also in terms of seismic behavior, have involved a stretch of about 158 meters. "With this intervention - said the extraordinary commissioner Annalisa Tardino - we are delivering to the port of Trapani a safer, more modern infrastructure that is consistent with the new configuration of the seabed, a strategic step to support the growth of the port and ensure adequate operational conditions for the needs of large ships, fully respecting safety and durability standards. Bringing the ferries to the islands back to the Sanità quay will offer our passengers a faster and more efficient service".

The project also included the restoration and adjustment of essential elements for the operation and safety of port activities: integration of mooring bollards, installation of access ladders for small boats, replacement of fenders and other protective devices, as well as ancillary works for the full usability of the quay. Additionally, a dedicated system intervention for the collection and disposal of rainwater from the yards has been implemented.
