Who spends the most in Serie B? Palermo on the podium but Americans dominate
The latest report from the League on the salaries of players, coaches, and sporting directors confirms the dominance of American funds
Who said that in football the sheikhs spend more than anyone else? In Serie B it is not so, and this is confirmed by the League, which has sent all the clubs in the league the updated data as of March 6 regarding the salaries of players, coaches, and sporting directors. In light of what has been communicated, it is the Americans of Monza who have put the most money on the table, with total costs amounting to 33.5 million euros. Completing the podium are Palermo and Venezia (also owned by Americans), with budgets of 30.4 and 30.3 million euros, respectively.
Total expenses and the weight of coaches
To date, Serie B has recorded a total expenditure of 323.5 million, including 282.3 million in fixed costs and 41.2 million in variable and non-guaranteed bonuses. This is a budget increase of 18.5 million compared to the previous update from October 2025. The increase is mainly due to the various changes on the bench; from Ballardini to Donadoni and passing through Longo, clubs have raised costs for coaches' salaries by 4.2 million since the start of the season. There has also been a significant increase for sporting directors which has led to an additional 2 million.
The relegation battle weighs more than promotion
Between the first and second seasonal reports, the most significant increase was recorded by Sampdoria, with a cost increase of 4 million euros for a total of 29.4 million. The blucerchiati have heavily invested in the winter market to defend their category, a move similar to that of their regional rivals Spezia, which ranked second for cost increase. The club of American president Charlie Stillitano has indeed put another 2.9 million euros on the table, of which 2 million was just for the hiring of Roberto Donadoni and his staff. There was also a significant increase for Mantova and Bari, which raised their expenditure by 2.1 and 1.7 million euros, respectively. A separate discussion is for Catanzaro, which, in contrast to the other clubs, has reduced its spending on salaries by 1.1 million euros while still being among the clubs involved in the playoff battle.
