The situation at Pappalardo

At the "Pappalardo" sports facility in Ragusa, the scene has been the same for days: leaks from the roof, puddles on the parquet, and a portion of the surface now unusable.

The images taken yesterday at 5 PM confirm that this is no longer an occasional mishap, but rather a structural problem, with immediate repercussions for those who should be training and for those who would like to rely on an efficient center.

Making the situation even more critical is the absence of any form of oversight: the building is accessible to anyone, at any time.

This condition exposes the complex to obvious risks, especially at a time when the administration has suspended all volunteer activities, leaving the facilities without custodians or representatives.

A void that weighs heavily, as it means not only a lack of supervision, but also an inability to ensure an orderly and safe use of the spaces.

On the issue, city councilor Sergio Firrincieli intervenes, choosing a pragmatic approach, abandoning the tones of denunciation to focus on possible immediate interventions.

"The Pappalardo – he explains – cannot remain in this condition. It is not useful to point fingers; we need to understand how to restore it to full functionality. The sports clubs need planning, and today they cannot do so because they do not know when and how they will be able to return."

Firrincieli points out some concrete actions: a quick technical check to identify the critical points of the roof and address the leaks; an immediate assessment of the damage to walls and flooring to define the timing and methods of restoration; and, above all, a temporary solution for access control, even minimal, but sufficient to prevent the structure from being completely exposed.

"We cannot allow – he adds – that such an important facility remains suspended in limbo. Every day that passes is a lost day for athletes, families, and associations. A coordinated intervention is needed, even temporary, but one that sends a clear signal: the Pappalardo has not been abandoned."

The priority, therefore, is a timely and tangible response. It is not just about repairing a leaking roof, but about returning to the city a space that, if fully operational, represents a reference for sports activities and the social life of Ragusa.
