The theft of clothing and illegal connections: combating illegality in Palermo, Carabinieri arrest a 34-year-old man and a 72-year-old man
The two were involved in two different operations
The Carabinieri of the San Lorenzo Company have completed two separate operations in the capital of Sicily, part of a broader strategy to combat widespread crime. The interventions led to the arrest of two men, a 34-year-old and a 74-year-old, both already known to law enforcement for property crimes.
The first operation, conducted by the soldiers of the Crispi Station, focused on the protection of productive activities. The Carabinieri caught a young Palermo resident, 34 years old, in the act as he attempted to leave a commercial establishment with a significant haul: 42 items of clothing, with a total estimated value of around 1,000 euros. The stolen goods were recovered before the man could escape.
The second intervention involved the Carabinieri of Partanna Mondello, supported by specialized technicians from Enel, in a targeted check against electricity theft. The inspection at a commercial establishment revealed a particularly ingenious fraud orchestrated by the owner, a 74-year-old already recidivist for the same crime.
Through a verification with a test bench, the technicians discovered that the meter had been tampered with by the forced introduction of conductive liquids inside the device's casing. This trick caused a malfunction in the system that completely reset the consumption count, resulting in damage to the supplying entity estimated at around 2,500 euros.
Both arrests were validated by the Preliminary Investigating Judge of the Palermo Court, who ordered both individuals to comply with the obligation to present themselves to the judicial police.
