Schifani on March 9 in Catania: visit to the new STMicroelectronics plant and the 'Porto Rossi'
The President of the Region will be on Monday at the 'SiC Campus', the new department specialized in silicon carbide production. A visit to the coastline devastated by Cyclone Harry is also planned.
The President of the Sicilian Region, Renato Schifani, will visit the construction site of the new industrial complex “SiC Campus” at the STMicroelectronics plant in Catania on the afternoon of March 9. The Region has contributed to the development contract for the construction of the new plant with 300 million euros of Step (Platform for Strategic Technologies for Europe) resources.
The investment program resulting from the agreement between the Region, the Ministry of Enterprises of Made in Italy (Mimit), Invitalia, and STMicroelectronics amounts to a total of 5.06 billion and will allow for the expansion of the company’s production capacity with a significant impact on added value and employment.
For this occasion, no press point is scheduled inside the plant.
At 12:30, the president, still in Catania, will attend the handover of the safety works for the Porto Rossi harbor, whose access road was destroyed by Cyclone Harry.
In the morning, at 11, he will instead be in Portopalo di Capo Passero (Syracuse) for the handover of the safety works for the port, awarded by the Civil Engineering Department of Syracuse through emergency procedure. The structure was damaged by Cyclone Harry on January 18.
Schifani, commissioner delegated for the emergency caused by the bad weather in recent months, will be accompanied by Duilio Alongi, the general manager of the Technical Department, appointed by the president as the delegated subject for the coordination of all structures, regional and otherwise, that are working to address the consequences of Cyclone Harry and the landslide in Niscemi.
