Minù and Prince are just the latest names on a long and painful list. Their disappearance marks yet another chapter in a silent massacre that is decimating the feline colony on Via Frosinone, in S. Giovanni La Punta.

A critical situation that unfolds in indifference, despite the existence of specific laws created precisely to prevent such tragedies. In Italy, free-roaming cats are not “owned” by anyone, but belong to the State's indisposable heritage.

The law 281/1991 is clear and emphasizes that mistreatment is strictly prohibited. It is forbidden to move felines from their natural habitat. Local authorities and the Asp are tasked with census and protection of these colonies.

Yet, in S. Giovanni La Punta, reality tells a different story: that of a progressive disappearance of defenseless animals in defiance of existing regulations. The issue concerns not only animal welfare but also road safety itself. Local residents, exhausted, have already sent a formal Pec to the Municipality reporting the high speed at which cars travel through the affected area.

Giving voice to this outrage is Patrick Battipaglia, spokesperson for the Comitato civico S. Giovanni La Punta Migliore and leader of the Italian Animalist Party.

"On Via Frosinone - he explains - there is a real massacre of cats taking place. It is unacceptable for a feline colony to be decimated in general silence. We ask the mayor to address this emergency as soon as possible. Feline colonies must be protected and cannot be left abandoned."

According to Battipaglia, the main cause of death for cats like Minù and Prince is linked to the recklessness of drivers. "Immediate action is needed with the installation of speed bumps or speed deterrents."
