The Democratic Party circle of Augusta officially announces its support for the mayoral candidacy of Salvo Pancari, representing the political project of the so-called "broad field" together with Green and Left Alliance and the 5 Star Movement, in view of the municipal elections scheduled for May 24 and 25.

Meanwhile, on the opposite front, the outgoing mayor Giuseppe Di Mare is preparing for the race for re-election in the upcoming municipal elections supported by a coalition made up of eight lists.

The decision of the PD came after a discussion with the regional and provincial secretariats of the PD.

According to the city circle, the phase that Augusta is going through requires the construction of a broad, responsible, and inclusive alliance, capable of uniting political forces, civic realities, and diverse skills with the aim of restoring to the city a solid and credible leadership, oriented towards the development and future of the territory.

For the local PD, the candidacy of Pancari represents the synthesis of a shared political and programmatic path.

Among the priorities indicated are sustainable development, economic and employment revival of the industrial area, protection of the environment and the health of citizens, contrast to excessive land consumption, enhancement of the port and local resources, as well as improving the efficiency of services and greater attention to social policies.

"The Democratic Party – reads a note signed by the city secretary Florindo Passanisi – will bring its programmatic contribution along with the human and political resources of the party into the coalition."

The team supporting Di Mare was presented yesterday at the electoral committee's premises on via Lavaggi 101, in a meeting with the press during which the political forces, civic movements, and lists that make up the coalition were illustrated.

These include Forza Italia, Augusta 2020, Together for Augusta, Great Sicily of + Augusta, 5+5, and Giuseppe Di Mare for mayor.

In total, there are 24 candidates for each list, for a total of 192 aspiring city councilors, among whom are the majority of the outgoing councilors.

Essentially, it is the same coalition that has governed the city in recent years and that today presents itself for the elections with the addition of further civic lists and the confirmation of the political forces that have shared the administrative path of the last term.

"A broad and cohesive team – states Di Mare – made up of parties, movements, and civic realities that have worked together for Augusta over the years. An administrative experience based on responsibility, concreteness, and results, which we intend to continue with the same spirit of service and with a clear vision for the future of our city."
