After almost a month of isolation, the fast ferries have not docked since February 11, and with the start of the safety and restoration works at the hydrofoil landing, hope is rekindled for the residents of the Ginostra district on the island of Stromboli.

The fast ferry landing dock in Ginostra has been affected and damaged multiple times by adverse marine weather events due to lack of maintenance. It is worth noting that the breakwater, destroyed in 2025, has not yet been restored, and therefore, with every storm, the fast ferry landing is fully hit by the waves. Following the recent severe weather events on February 12, 13, and 17 and 18, which caused significant damage to the structure, it has been closed. The works at the landing began in recent days, after the technical inspection and preparation of the necessary materials. The urgent intervention for the repair of the Ginostra dock will be carried out by the company Edilfer S.r.l. of Lipari, which will perform the necessary work to restore its functionality and allow for the revocation of its uninhabitability.

The interventions will consist of the removal of damaged structures, the safety measures for the structure through the restoration of the metal parts, particularly the realignment of the supporting beams, and the restoration of the completely uprooted walking surface from the last storms. This initiative will facilitate the resumption of maritime connections that have been severely compromised by the destructive force of “Cyclone Harry” for the Stromboli landing and the subsequent storms for the Ginostra district and the restoration of full operability of the terminal for fast ferries.

In Stromboli, on the other side of the island, work continues for the restoration of the ship dock, which is causing significant disruptions to the supply of goods. The goal, as hoped by the residents, is the full functionality of the two ports of the island before Holy Easter, the date when the 2026 tourist season will officially begin.
