Referendum, Schifani praises Marina Berlusconi: seriousness and depoliticization are needed in justice

The President of the Sicilian Region, Renato Schifani, expresses full satisfaction with the words of Marina Berlusconi, who "invite us to bring the discussion on justice reform back to a level of seriousness and merit, away from ideological confrontations."

In view of the referendum on March 22 and 23, Schifani emphasizes, "it is important that the debate focuses on the contents of the reform and the objectives of strengthening the balance between powers, the impartiality of the judge, and the credibility of the judicial system."

"A balanced and responsible discussion - concludes Schifani - can help citizens to evaluate with awareness a reform that concerns the proper functioning of institutions and the quality of democracy. In this process, it is equally essential to continue decisively on the path of depoliticizing the judiciary: keeping politics out is a fundamental condition for strengthening its autonomy, independence, and the citizens' trust in justice."
