About a thousand people, mostly girls, according to the organizers, took to the streets in Palermo on the evening of International Women's Day for a march promoted by the feminist association "Non una di meno".
The demonstration started from piazza Ruggero Settimo, crossed the streets of the city center, and concluded in piazza Marina. At the beginning of the march, the slogan read: "Our lives matter. We strike".
"We do this to put our desires back at the center – explained Simona Paladino from Non una di meno –. During these days, moreover, alongside the theme of women's rights, we also express concern for a strong warlike and militaristic drift, which worries us greatly and is reshaping various priorities for the country, starting with economic ones."
Among the banners, phrases such as: "I want to fight and I am not afraid to die" and "I do not trust my comrades" could be read.
The association "Non una di meno" announced another initiative for tomorrow: "arms crossed for the strike", with a sit-in in piazza Verdi starting at 10 in the morning, the organizers explain.
