Giusy Buscemi, from the set to the return to her grandparents' countryside
The actress, on TV with 'Vanina', has a company that produces oil (with sustainable packaging), avocados, and honey. She will be awarded at 'Women in Food'
These days she is on TV with "Vanina," the series about the deputy commissioner of Catania based on the novels of Sicilian writer Cristina Cassar Scalia, airing on Wednesdays on Canale 5 for four episodes, filmed in Catania. But the former Miss Italy from Sicily, model and actress Giusy Buscemi has not betrayed her family roots and has returned to the land.
A few years ago, with her husband Jan Michelini, a director, she resumed olive oil production in her grandparents' countryside in Menfi, creating the agricultural company Casa Rossa. "I grew up in a countryside overlooking the sea, among grape harvests and large family lunches. I come to Sicily every 15 days for my family and to closely follow the company - she recounts - a dream that has come true." The oil is produced from three varieties of olives: Nocellara del Belìce, Biancolilla, and Cerasuola. In addition to the olive trees, avocado production and honey production have been added.
A novelty of Giusy Buscemi's oil is the sustainable packaging: a rectangular wooden case, a small house with a small opening at the bottom where a dispenser is inserted in which the oil is sealed in a food-grade bag-in-box - which keeps the oil vacuum-sealed to avoid oxidation and which, thanks to the tap, prevents air from entering - helping to preserve freshness, aroma, and quality. When the oil is finished, you can buy "the refill," the bag refill with the oil and insert it into the box.
Giusy Buscemi is one of the 15 women in wine, food, and hospitality who will be awarded at "Women in Food", from March 17 to 19 at the Verdura Resort of Sir Rocco Forte in Sciacca, the event by Cook - Corriere della sera that celebrates female talent in the food and wine sector.
