Santa Margherita comes back to life: urban park of 12,000 sqm with arena, parking lots, and road bypass
Towards the large urban park of Santa Margherita: about 12,000 sqm redeveloped with an event arena, parking lots, and a new bypass, works entrusted to Catifra of Barcelona
It is now a matter of days, then the handover of the works to the contracting company will effectively pave the way for the creation of the large urban park of Santa Margherita. The intervention, included in the program "Messina accessible and inclusive city 2", funded by the Pon Metro Plus and Medium Cities South 2021-2027, which provides for the urban redevelopment of nine areas located throughout the city, aims to transform the urban area of Santa Margherita through works of removal of architectural barriers and improvement of public spaces.
The goal is to return to the city an area of about 12 thousand square meters, which has been abandoned for about eighty years, and to create a large urban park that will also host an arena for events, concerts, theatrical performances, sporting events, and cultural initiatives. An area dedicated to parking is also planned, along with the construction of a connecting bypass between the old national road and state road 114. The works will be carried out by the Catifra company from Barcelona, which won the tender with a 32 percent discount. Total cost of the project is 1,766,906.16 euros plus VAT. Estimated time for completion is 403 days from the opening of the construction site.
