the wound
The Pirandello Theater 'scarred' by students: damaged boxes during the Mandorlo in Fiore
The Foundation's anger: 'This is not a free zone, respect is needed'
Teatro Luigi Pirandello
It was supposed to be a celebration of beauty, a bridge between the roots of folklore and the energy of new generations. Unfortunately, it has turned into a wound for the cultural heart of Agrigento. The Teatro Pirandello, an architectural gem and identity symbol of the city, has come out "bruised" from the recent matinées dedicated to schools for the Mandorlo in Fiore.
The fact: the uncontrolled assault
The balance is clear: while the attendance of hundreds of students initially generated satisfaction, the post-show inspection revealed a desolate reality. Some historic boxes of the Theater have been damaged. This is not about normal wear and tear, but about wounds inflicted on a heritage that belongs to everyone, caused by behavior that has little to do with cultural participation and much to do with a lack of civic awareness.
The temple of Pirandello, accustomed to respectful silence and the warmth of applause, has literally been stormed, suffering the consequences of a management of its vital space that has gotten out of hand.
The appeal of Andrea Cirino: "Culture is not just about watching, it is about respecting"
The Vice President of the Fondazione Teatro Pirandello, Andrea Cirino, has chosen a stance of firmness mixed with educational reflection, avoiding a summary "trial" but not hiding the seriousness of the incident.
"The Theater is not just a performance space: it is a heritage of the city that deserves attention and awareness," Cirino declares. "It is essential that, during events with large attendance, necessary order conditions are guaranteed to protect a space that belongs to the entire community."
Cirino's tone is that of a disappointed but still hopeful parent: the aim is not to punish, but to educate. However, the underlying message is a warning: the Theater is open to all, but it is not a free zone where anything is allowed.
A necessary reflection: is beauty enough by itself?
The episode reopens a debate that has never been silenced: is it enough to bring young people to the theater to create culture? The events of these days suggest that the answer is "no". If the container (the theater) is desecrated by the content (undisciplined spectators), the educational value of the event collapses dramatically.
Pirandello must continue to be a beacon for new generations, but for this to happen, it is necessary for schools and families to explain that entering the theater is an act of responsibility. Without respect, the performance becomes just noise on a damaged stage.
