A race against time to save the life of a nine-month-old baby girl. The doctors at the Pediatric Cardiology Center of the Mediterranean Bambino Gesù in Taormina mobilized in recent hours to reach the hospital in Cosenza, where the little girl was hospitalized in Intensive Care.
To enable the specialized intervention, the emergency system of Asp 5 of Messina was activated, allowing the transfer to Calabria of an entire medical team with the aim of providing immediate assistance to the patient.
The operation required a rapid mobilization of personnel and resources, involving the general management of the Provincial Health Authority of Messina and the healthcare staff of the Pediatric Cardiology Center of the Mediterranean. A commitment that, according to reports, saw doctors and healthcare workers working tirelessly throughout the day.
The mission in Calabria came at the end of an already particularly intense day for the team: that same morning, the pediatric cardiologists had been at the hospital in Enna, where they had performed a surgery on a newborn weighing just 650 grams.
A double intervention in a few hours that demonstrates the activity of the specialized center in Taormina and the collaboration between healthcare facilities to ensure timely care for the most vulnerable patients.
