A late afternoon of ordinary daily life turned into a scene of unspeakable tragedy in the center of Kerzers, in the Canton of Fribourg, where a postal bus was engulfed in flames, resulting in the death of several passengers and the injury of others.

The accounts of witnesses

Although the cantonal authorities, questioned by the Keystone-Ats agency, stated that it is "still too early" to determine with certainty the dynamics and causes of the fire, the first dramatic accounts from those present are beginning to emerge. The Swiss newspaper Blick released a video in which a witness, with a face covered in soot, reports in Albanian what happened on board: "A man set himself on fire inside. He poured gasoline on himself and set himself on fire!". This version of events seems to be corroborated by the words of other witnesses at the scene, although, at this time, the cantonal police have not yet officially confirmed this lead, maintaining maximum confidentiality regarding the ongoing investigation.

The rescue efforts and emergency management

The rescue operation was activated immediately. The accident site was quickly cordoned off to allow emergency teams and scientific investigations to proceed. Among the injured, one was airlifted urgently to a specialized hospital facility via the Swiss rescue helicopter Rega, highlighting the seriousness of the clinical situation. The initial toll is at least six dead and five injured, three of whom are in critical condition, as reported by the Fribourg police during a press conference in the evening.

The law enforcement agencies have issued a call to the public, firmly requesting to avoid the affected area so as not to hinder the work of rescuers and to preserve the integrity of the accident scene. "Further information will be released as soon as the police know more," a spokesperson communicated, while the Swiss town remains in shock over an event that strikes one of the symbols of Swiss mobility, the postal bus PostAuto.

The local community is now anxiously awaiting official clarifications, while investigators continue their investigations to reconstruct the chain of events that led to the tragic fire.
