The Provincial Federation of the Democratic Party of Ragusa expresses deep satisfaction for the unanimous approval today by the Sicilian Regional Assembly of the law that recognizes Comiso as "City of Peace", initiated by the honorable Nello Dipasquale.
The measure formally enshrines the symbolic and historical value of Comiso, which has always been linked to the great pacifist mobilizations and the promotion of dialogue between peoples.
“This is an important result – declares the provincial secretary of the Democratic Party of Ragusa, Angelo Curciullo – which stems from a proposal by our deputy Nello Dipasquale, but has managed to unite political forces and institutions across the board. The unanimous approval by the Sicilian Regional Assembly confirms the shared value of this initiative and the profound meaning that Comiso represents in the history of peace movements.”
“Comiso – continues Curciullo – brings to mind the great pacifist battles that marked an important season of our recent history. Today, in an international context marked by increasing tensions and conflicts, claiming this role symbolically takes on an even stronger value. With this law, Sicily clearly asserts its will to stand on the side of peace.”
The law also establishes the “Comiso City of Peace” Committee, tasked with promoting initiatives and projects aimed at spreading the culture of peace and fostering dialogue between nations, as well as organizing the annual International Peace Week, with cultural events, meetings, exhibitions, and activities aimed at citizens and the school community.
