Syracuse capital of canoe polo: the international weekend kicks off

Everything is ready at the Cittadella dello Sport in Syracuse for the first edition of the International Sicily Cup. The prestigious canoe polo tournament will take place on Saturday, March 14, and Sunday, March 15, at the "Paolo Caldarella" pool, with the aim of bringing back to the city the great enthusiasm that has marked the local sports history for decades.

The protagonists in the water

Eight high-profile teams will compete: Canoe Polo Club Syracuse (the hosts), Polisportiva Canottieri Catania (teams A and B), Jomar Club Catania, San Nicola Palermo, CUS Catania, SC Ognina Catania, LNI Taranto.

Davide Novara, coach of the Syracuse club and world champion in 2016, expresses great pride: "Bringing high-level canoe polo back to Syracuse is a responsibility we embrace with enthusiasm. We want to provide a show for our audience."

The tournament will unfold with a group stage on Saturday, leading to the final stages on Sunday. Novara analyzes his team's prospects: "We are an experienced team. Even though we will face very well-prepared top-tier teams, our condition is improving and we are ready to leverage our experience."

Towards the competitive season

The International Sicily Cup represents the ideal testing ground in view of the Serie A1 season for CPC Syracuse. The club, fresh from a promotion, has clear ambitions: after the appointment with the Coppa Italia in April, the focus is on the playoffs. "We are not hiding," concludes the coach, "our goal is the top league. We are ready to achieve this milestone on the field."
