Rejection of the third term for mayors, De Luca: «Another slap in the face to the Schifani government from the Ars»
Pd and M5S talk about a «majority that no longer exists» and that «votes against itself»
The rejection of the third term for Sicilian mayors, which took place at the Sicilian Regional Assembly with a secret vote and the actions of various - anonymous - "franchi tiratori", has triggered various reactions.
For Anci Sicilia, the rejection of the rule for the third term of mayors «is a missed opportunity» while the opposition attacks the center-right. «I acknowledge the attempt by the Vice President of the Region Luca Sammartino to downplay what happened in the chamber. But the truth is clear to everyone: this Parliament has just dealt yet another slap to the Schifani government», says Cateno De Luca, leader of Sud Chiama Nord. For De Luca, there is only one political way out: «At this point, let's do something very simple: let's pull the plug and go back to voting immediately».
Pd and M5S emphasize the split in the center-right. «The numbers are clear, the majority voted against itself, for the center-right and the Schifani government it was yet another Waterloo», claims Michele Catanzaro, group leader of the Pd at the Ars. And for the group leader of the M5S at the Ars Antonio De Luca, «if we add to this the scandals and judicial investigations that repeatedly and worryingly overwhelm the executive, the majority or anyway very close men to it, we wonder how Schifani thinks he can move forward to adopt measures capable of addressing the problems of Sicilians». «As was to be demonstrated, the majority of President Schifani no longer exists», observes the regional coordinator of the M5S Nuccio Di Paola.
